Coaching Solves Awareness, Not Performance

What does your organization actually need from coaching right now?
In this post, we address how:
Leadership development is entering its next generation. The workforce, pace of business and leadership expectations have fundamentally changed.
ICF coaching and one-time assessments create awareness. Modern organizations need leadership systems that improve performance, adapt over time, re-measure and scale internally.
Organizations are shifting from buying coaching experiences to building internal leadership capacity supported by measurement, AI and consistent methodology.
Impact Coaching is Pivotal Growth's leadership performance system designed for today's workforce, and tomorrow's organizational demands.

High Performance Redefined
Your workforce wants coaching. You and your company want results. The performance coaching many of today's executives experienced throughout their careers is no longer sufficient for today's workforce or organizations.
The dilemma now is that if ICF coaching calibre isn’t what your business needs, and technical coaching not what your workforce wants, what does your corporation need to adopt for performance and results?
Responding to the Crossover and Shift Trend
Driving the need to change is the changing leadership table, which is the crossover in leadership.
I know from our comprehensive research that millennial leaders are clear in how they want to lead. The shift in demographics will see them owning the authority to make decisions their way by 2030. It’s time to set organizations up for what’s ahead.
The second change is the playbook shift, from traditional to modern. Yes, you do need to change. You need an updated playbook for a four-generation, AI-enabled and accelerated global competitive business climate.
Coaching in Corporations
I’m a leader whose playbook was shaped in financial services, technology and professional services performance cultures. When my technical coaching stopped having the same impact, I got a certificate in executive coaching. The experience left me reconciling my drive to realize performance and results, the time commitment of great coaching, and the pace businesses needed. As a result, I’ve not been a pure ICF coach professional. ICF now is recognizing the need to optimize both coaching and experience in pursuit of development outcomes. That leaves a new lane for operational leaders, like me, to bring experience into coaching.
The Pivotal Growth team has built and deployed the tools and methodology, a leadership performance system, to lead high-performing teams. I used my experience of building and transforming businesses, markets, teams, sales and performance to commercialize a performance systems methodology to design and evolve. It’s been validated by research and leaders, and by me, as someone who has been in the organizational leadership seat.
The Uncomfortable Change
Increasingly, L&D leaders share with us how their incoming cohorts of learners are doing less with the tried and comfortable assessment tools.
The change isn’t because the tools are broken. It’s because the learners want something different.
They are vocal about not liking the tools, including the 20-page report that comes with them. They are wired differently and grounded by lived experiences that aren’t the same as the 10-year-old plus leadership program and supporting tools.
Re-measurability should be what organizations have access to, so they can adaptively design and deploy the programs their leaders need to drive the execution, performance and results their businesses need.
The Impact Coaching System
We’ve recently achieved a new level of development impact. One of Pivotal Growth’s full Leadership Intelligence System clients, who used their own competency model diagnostic, asked us to help them with their manager development. In addition to the customized manager diagnostic, they wanted to adopt and enable it internally.
We now can certify organizations to use our leadership intelligence systems, spanning diagnostics through to development. The Pathway to Performance Impact Coaching Certification builds an organization's capacity to consistently translate leadership data into better leadership investments decisions and measurable performance improvement. Certified practitioners learn to identify what matters most, create leader-owned action and deliver a consistent development experience that organizations can scale, measure, re-measure and sustain long after the certification is complete.
Impact Coaching is not a personality profile certification. Nor is it a weekend-long certification that ends with a binder. It is a leadership performance system grounded in proven methodology, measurement, insights and outcomes, all designed to produce one thing: a leader who knows exactly where to direct their energy next.
We’re developing practitioners who can deliver leadership development consistently. Our leadership development certification is anchored in data, infused with coaching and built for what your workforce wants.
What our performance-focused clients value is that its data-backed, ROI-enabled and produces a personalized leadership development experience. They access eight years of working and coaching hundreds of leaders, plus Pivotal Growth’s 3-year high-performance leader research.
In addition to measuring today’s workplace of remote work and tech enablement, we support practitioners with AI tools. Gone is the stack of certification books, dense online folders and practicing on your own. We’ve built and deployed an AI Agent to actively support practitioners practicing their impact. We’ve also built and deployed an AI Agent Observer that has been trained to listen and observe the pace of the conversation, and not miss a moment, shift or reaction.
The Pathway to Performance Impact Coach’s role is specific. They hold the playbook. The leader makes the play. Impact Coaches are enabled to create the conditions for the leader to name their own insight, choose their own next step, and close the session by voicing a concrete commitment. They genuinely take hold of their ownership of leadership. Leaders don’t need more information; they need to be able to focus on what matters most.
Your Change Leadership
Leadership demands managing, leading and coaching. Coaching is a must for today’s leaders. Modern organizations need both coaching and outcomes. We can help your organization achieve this. We help organizations to lead the way their workforce wants them to. Impact Coaching is what organizations need for today’s performance expectations.
The future of coaching is Impact Coaching: a measurable, insight-led coaching methodology that changes how organizations develop leaders, enable practitioners and connect coaching to performance.
Impact Coaching exists because awareness was never the hard part. Performance is. If that's the gap your organization is trying to close, we should talk.
